Submission to Inquiry into Foreign Bribery

Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Australia and the Uniting Church in Australia Synod of Victoria and Tasmania welcome the opportunity to provide this joint submission to the Government’s inquiry into foreign bribery.

Foreign bribery falls on the continuum of corruption that plagues the extractives industry, particularly its activities within developing countries, and is inextricably tied to a countries economic and human development. The Australian Government has a responsibility to ensuring fair, equitable and sustainable practices are operating in the extractive sector, particularly as Australian extractive companies increase their presence in many of these developing nations.
