This report provides an overview and analysis of Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) listed extractive companies’ global fossil fuel footprint. Australian companies' ongoing investments in new fossil fuels globally is incompatible with the Australian governments legally binding commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris Agreement. The report makes a series of recommendations on increasing transparency and reporting on reserves, embedded emissions, price sensitivity, break even prices closure liabilities and transition plans. It call for an end in government funding fossil fuels and a halt to any new approvals for fossil fuel projects.
Shwe gas project: companies must stop the flow of wealth to the Myanmar military
Publish What You Pay in partnership with the Asian Dignity Initiative and the Mineral Inheritors Rights Association are launching a new report looking at the Shwe gas project operated by Posco International. The Shwe gas project has contributed between USD 214 million and USD 471 million per year in payments in the last few years. To support democracy and peace in Myanmar, international companies must adhere to the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
The military or the people. Who benefits from Myanmar’s offshore gas?
Myanmar’s natural resource wealth should benefit its 54 million people not the military regime. This brief uses public data to show millions of dollars in gas sales from the Yadana block (M5/M6) via the Myanmar National Oil and Gas enterprise (MOGE) flowing to the Myanmar military, their business and crony controlled companies. The Yadana block is a joint venture between Total, Chevron’s affiliate in Myanmar (Unocal) and MOGE.
